Mekhail explores the concept of emergence—of being set apart in order to evolve into something greater. Sometimes, before we step into our next season, God pulls us away, into solitude, into refining. It can feel very isolating, even painful, but like a butterfly in its cocoon, that separation is where the real transformation happens.

The stark contrast between the figure and the luminous red expanse speaks to this process—the shedding of past selves, the breaking away from what no longer fits or serves. Growth isn’t always visible at first, but when it’s time, when you finally emerge, the transformation is undeniable.

Mekhail has been in that season for the past few years—a time where God has been working on her, stretching her, preparing her for what’s ahead. This piece was created in the midst of that introspection, grappling with what it means to trust the process, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Layers of crushed glass and epoxy resin encapsulate the beauty and tension of transformation; the fragility, the resilience, the unpredictable way light reflects when something has been reshaped. Because real change isn’t just about endurance, it’s about stepping forward, fully transformed.
