SMOKE
Acrylic, Mixed Media, Crushed Glass
48x60”
Noting the current sociopolitical moment, "Smoke" is my way of bucking at the patriarchal system, specifically in regards to the new abortion law S.B.8 passed by Texas Governor, Greg Abbott.
The painting shows, Hathor, goddess of love and fertility, with mechanical inner workings, to represent how, often, men see a woman's body as "heavy machinery". Machinery they have control over, operate, and have dictatorship over, as though we shouldn't have agency over our own bodies.
A good friend of mine always tells me, "You can't wrangle smoke." Smoke moves how it needs and wants to.
A woman is like smoke. She should not and cannot be wrangled.
